I remember the summer holidays of my school days. The too long and boring exams finally over, no homework, no school, no studies, no teachers to think of for a whole month! Mangoes, and ice-candy, and watermelons, and grapes, and limejuice, and of course, the pepsicola!
Sweet and cold and red, green, yellow, brown, orange, white ice sticks put in the small long plastic wrappers. Saving money, and buying them without letting your parents know. And then getting caught, orange-tongued, and fending off the scolding, by running away to play.
One summer, my mother succumbed to our demands, and procured a whole bag of those delicious things, from somewhere ‘clean’, and then the whole week was spent competing who eats most.
We grew up, the novelty was gone, pepsicolas were out of fashion. And were replaced by icecream, and kulfi, and sucking ice became' childish' (tho by no means less tasty).
But this year, we wanted them again… my mom knew no more where they were available, but set out on a mission, one Sunday, to look for the place, and came back with a bag full! Mission accomplished… ours is to finish them ;)
A kid yet,
Madhura.
