The craziest book I have ever read. The word impossible is not meant for Douglas Adams’ imagination. It makes your head spin. And yet you can't let go..
Here’s some stuff I found hilarious/ingenious.
The earth is merely an experiment performed (by mice) to find the ultimate question of life, the universe and everything. in short, the question to the answer ‘42’. Unfortunately, the experiment is destroyed by poem reciting slugs, to facilitate an intergalactic expressway that is not even required.
The speed of a vehicle is relative to your driving skills.
The depressed robot: Marvin.. head the size of a planet but… oh! Who cares!.....
The happy-to-be-of-assistance computer that will suggest a hundred things to make you happy unless you ask it to shut it’s stupid mouth and do what is asked.
Point of view gun: when you fire it at someone, he/she/it starts thinking from your point of view. :D
Invisibility, a very complex process (almost impossible to achieve): many scientists have tried in vain to make things invisible. And the generally accepted fact is that instead of trying to make an object invisible, it’s better to simply get rid of that object and do without it.
The SEP (somebody else’s problem) Field: uses peoples’ inherent disposition to not see things that they cannot explain/do not like or is not their problem. So, an object with an SEP field around it is very difficult to sight unless you absolutely know it’s there.
Lifts with a capability of seeing a little in the future:
These are designed to open/ arrive before you reach the lift and take you to the correct floor without having to tell them. The problem is, they soon realize that up and down are not the only directions. And then sulked in the basement because they weren’t allowed to move sideways.
There is an easy two step trick to fly: Aim to hit the ground and miss it :). The first is easy (so many people around the universe do it every day). The second is the real tricky part. It can be achieved when your attention is suddenly diverted from the approaching ground so that you completely forget to hit it.
Our universe and time are only one of the many that run parallell (or not so parallel) so that the earth exists in many forms and times and places at the same … um time?.. ok heres’s where my grasping power failed me.
